"I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream" — Vincent Van Gogh

In 1889, Van Gogh painted Starry Night in Saint-Rémy, France, when the Milky Way was still visible overhead.

Today? Not so much.

This interactive artwork raises awareness about light pollution by suggesting we’re losing a major source of inspiration: the stars.

Turn off the house lights to let the stars slowly appear… and enjoy Starry Night.

When NASA calls

In 2019, I got an email from NASA astronomer Kim Arcand. She wanted to include my side project in Lights Out, a Smithsonian exhibition on light pollution that opened in 2023.

Since then, it’s been featured in publications like The Washington Post, Forbes, and more.
