Take a Seat, Take a Stand

The world’s first seated march.

In 2018, the women’s movement was on the rise, but women were still sidelined in sports: WNBA tickets weren’t selling. We wanted to move the march into the arena, for people to realise that supporting women in sports means supporting women everywhere.

How to take a stand: arena division

We partnered with different women’s organizations and assigned them each a space in the arena. Choosing a seat meant choosing to stand for a women’s cause, to which the WNBA donated a portion of every ticket.

#WNBATakesAStand

On May 20th, our campaign got its own Twitter emoji, displayed every time someone used the hashtag.

And yes, that’s Joe Biden tweeting about us.
